Lower Secondary

Our Qualifications

Elea High offers a wide range of qualifications to our students to enable them to plan their journey to their dream career and that journey begins in Elea High’s Year 7 class.

The English secondary education system begins in the year which follows the students’ 11th birthday. Students study a broad range of subjects to prepare them for making their choice of IGCSE courses to study from Year 9 or Year 10. Throughout Years 7 – 9, students are formally assessed internally using Pearson’s iLower Secondary exam suite in Maths, English and Science whilst end of term and end of year assessments in other subjects gives us a strong indication of their progress through the curriculum, allowing us to adjust their education programme appropriately. In the English education system, recognised across the globe, students sit external exams at 15 or 16 years old and need to achieve a grade 6 (grade 5 under exceptional circumstances) to be able to progress to A levels.

If your child is looking to go to university after compulsory education, they must achieve good grades in their A level exams. In addition to this, universities look for ways that students have sought to extend their learning opportunities and, most commonly, this is through the undertaking of the Extended Project Qualification which is the equivalent of half an A level and earns up to 28 UCAS points, the rubric for entry onto university courses.

Exceptionally, we find that some students are looking for one to one education to enable them to progress to their examinations at their own speed. We can offer expert one to one tuition from 11 years old, up to and including A levels.

Lower Secondary

Elea High Online School’s Lower Secondary curriculum takes students through from 11 years old to 14 years old and can be studied in two or three years. It covers a range of subjects including Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, Drama, Art, a Modern Foreign Language and develops life skills through a focused Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education course. At the end of the course, the students take internal examinations in Maths, English and Science. It’s during this course that students gain the most from the use of technology with many experiences being gained through Virtual Reality. Studies by renowned institutions show that the retention of knowledge in these years is greatly enhanced by the use of VR experiences and it’s been shown that continued use into the exam years can boost exam grades by up to 20%.
